Here are some of my favourites from our Christmas photos! I decided last minute that I wanted to do them, and I am so glad that I did. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for following me this year!
Long time, no Blog!
Recently, my family took some fall photos with one of my favourites Kathy DeMerchant. Even though they were fall photos, it was freezing the day we took them. I was so worried that our photos wouldn’t turn out because everyone was cold. When Kathy sent me them, I was thrilled with how they turned out, more specifically the photos that she was able to capture of our family but especially my beautiful children. When I look at the photos we took last year to now, their growth, development and personalities have changed so much and my husband and son are twins!
Happy Thursday and Happy Thanksgiving to my American family’s &friends!
Last week I started a brand new series and one that I am really excited about: Friday favourites. Every Friday, I will be featuring one of my current favourites, ranging from people, to clothes, to restaurants & businesses and quotes. This week’s feature is on a local business and sugar shop, Hello Baked. I was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario and I still live there. Over the past few years, Hamilton has really exploded as far as local businesses, restaurants and in my opinion has some of the best spots to dine & shop at in Ontario.
Last weekend, my mom and I headed to Hello Baked. A local and newly opened sugar & gift shop. The first thing that you notice right away is the gorgeous wall that says Hello on the side of the building. Located on Barton Street East, a new and upcoming street for new businesses, is where this quaint, sweet & beautifully decorated sugar shop exists. Hello Baked sells everything from sugar cookies (made by the owner), to tea, candles (Pure Home), sprinkles, macarons, gift sets & the most glorious candy wall you have ever seen. Jessica, the owner of Hello Baked, is so sweet & helpful and let me take as many photos as I wanted to. After I had rearranged her store, I filled up one of her cute candy boxes with a mixture of different candies..you get to fill the whole box for $8! I also purchased some of her delicious sugar cookies, a Pure “Made in Hamilton” candle and some Sloane tea. If you’re looking for some sweet treats & a taste of Hamilton, I highly recommend Hello Baked.
Happy Friday! Here at Fancy Little Momma, I have decided to start a new series: Friday Favourites. In this new series, I will be sharing my favourites in everything from people & bloggers, to fashion, kids products, clothes, beauty products and favourite quotes.
For my very first Friday Favourites, my feature is on a fellow Fashion Blogger, someone I call my friend, Shell, from A Courageous Beauty. Shell was one of my first Insta friends that I met through social media & blogging. She has always been one of my biggest supporters and is a believer of women supporting each other. We have never actually met in person, Shell lives in D.C. and I live in Canada, but we have spoken on the phone and she is as lovely as she looks in her photos.
She is a working momma to her 3 year old daughter, Bravely, a wife and a Boss Babe who runs her very successful Fashion Blog. When I asked Shell if she would like to be apart of my new series, she did not hesitate. She is not only fashionable & stylish, but she's as beautiful inside as she is on the outside. See below for my interview with Shell, if you are not following her on social media, or her Blog- you need to ASAP, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
1. A Courageous Beauty is the name of your Blog. Can you tell us how you got started on this journey?
A Courageous Beauty is named after my daughter whose name means just that. When deciding a name for my daughter, I wanted it to reflect the character and life I had hoped for her. I wanted her to be courageous in her faith, love, dreams, and hope. I wanted her inner beauty to shine out to others and pray that God’s grace and love flow out of her daily, to touch the lives surrounding hers. That is what A Courageous Beauty is all about.
2. You’re a wife, mother to beautiful Bravely and you work- how are you able to manage all of this and a successful blog?
I had to sacrifice a lot (even sleep) and learn how to prioritize. I quickly learned that successful individuals know when to say no to the things that aren't fruitful and beneficial.
3. How would you describe your own personal style?
Feminine, classic, modest, and refined - I believe that style is all about truly knowing and loving yourself. Style is an expression of who you are and your sense of self.
4. What is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging?
That it is a VERY competitive world. Although, I am blessed to live in a community (D.C.) that is incredibly supportive and encouraging to one another.
5. Your socials & Blog have had great success. What have you done to build your brand and what advice would you give to others looking to start their own blog?
Engagement is key. Look at your followers and audience as personal friends that you want to build a relationship and trust with. Once people see that you are relatable, kind and that you care about them, they will appreciate and trust your content.
6. What are your hopes for the future of A Courageous Beauty?
Of course, I have my own personal hopes and dreams of where I want this to lead, but at the end of the day, I hope that my blog can change a life for the better. I want to encourage and pour into the lives of women and men with words of love and inspiration. I want women to stand and declare that they are A courageous beauty. They are world changers. They are confident. They are fearlessly kind. They are brave. THAT is what I want for this blog.
A HUGE thanks to Shell from A Courageous Beauty, she is an inspiration and so sweet. Head to Shell's Blog to see more of her fabulous looks, you can also find her on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook & Pinterest!
Thanks for reading & Happy weekend!
I am going to begin this post with a little introduction. I have been blogging for a couple of years now. I started Fancy Little Momma after I had my son because while I was off on maternity leave, I started following and reading other blogs. From fashion to lifestyle and food blogs, I loved to read them. I have always loved fashion and all things beautiful. I am meticulous and I am a believer of the “look good, feel good” policy. One thing that has always been consistent is that I frequently have my family, friends and strangers ask me where I bought clothes or items, how I came up with the theme for my Bridal shower or birthday party. With these constant questions & inquiries, I decided that I would start my Blog: Fancy Little Momma. In my short time blogging, there are a few things that I struggle with as a blogger.
Before I had started my Blog, I hadn’t realized how time consuming it would be. I knew that it would be work, but not this much work. I have two children now under the age of 4, a full time job and career and of course my home life. This most definitely has been a reason why I struggle with posting consistently and regularly. I really love my Blog, but I also don’t want to just post things to just post them. I want them to be authentic, to be me, to be well written. What I do know is that I have had emails and messages from other people who really want to start a Blog, but are scared. I say, do whatever makes you happy. Life is way too short to hesitate or worry about failure.
What does it mean to be authentic anymore?
The blogging world seems so saturated with bloggers that there doesn’t seem to be space for new ones and ones that are authentic ( I am not saying there aren’t amazing, authentic bloggers). What I mean by this is that there are a lot of new bloggers out there who have 10,000 followers on Instagram and have just begun. I have been doing this for a couple of years and have yet to hit 3,000. I think this may be two fold.
First, those people who’s blogs are growing at a crazy fast rate are probably purchasing and buying followers. Which, crazy enough is a thing. If they’re not, then they must be really fantastic and/or have beaten Instagrams algorithm. Kudos to you for your hustle then :) I really want people to follow my Blog because they like it, me and what I post.
The second part to this is that a lot of people who “follow” you don’t actually follow you. Ghost followers I refer to them as. They lurk your socials & websites but never hit that ‘like’ or ‘follow’ button. I have a tonne of traffic that frequents my website daily, weekly and monthly. These numbers don’t actually match up to my socials numbers. I think that one of the unfortunate things about social media, especially Instagram is that everyone is striving to post that ‘perfect’ photo…I am guilty of this myself. And to be perfectly honest, some days it is exhausting and not reality. Most days that I am at home with my kids, I am in sweats or pyjamas, with no makeup on doing 5 loads of laundry, playing with my kids and on to my 5th cup of Joe. I recently posted a photo of my family on my Insta Stories, my son was looking away, my daughter was trying to grab my hair, my husband and I were not looking…it was chaos. We take so many photos just to get that one perfect snap. I think what people fail to maybe realize is that these stunning photos are a mere glimpse into peoples lives, not the reality- including my own.
What is so important to me and the reason why I started my Blog is because when you read Fancy Little Momma, I want you to hear my voice, my opinions, thoughts and truths. I realize that in life not everyone is going to ‘like’ what I post or even agree with it, and thats completely OK. Not everyone is going to like you or your brand. If you ever feel as though someone is affecting you negatively, then don’t follow them, be friends with them or lurk them. It’s just not good for the soul. As we embark on this New Year, I think we all need to remind ourselves to always stay true to who we are. To not let others, their successes and failures measure our own. Thanks for reading!
2017 has been a busy year for my family…we’ve had a lot of firsts this year…my daughter Charleston turned 1 and started daycare…My son, Jaxson started JK this year and that has been a huge adjustment for him and our whole family…I went back to work after being off on maternity leave…being a working momma of two is no joke! My brother David graduated Medical school, got married and moved to Hawaii.
To say it has been a busy and crazy year is an understatement. Change can sometimes be challenging and trying, and it has been both of those things for us. But like everything, what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. I have had so many proud moments this year, watching my son grow into a little man and my daughter learn new words and skills daily. I am especially proud of my brother, David who has reached his goal of becoming a doctor. I really miss David, but I am excited because my husband and I are going to Hawaii in March. Definitely something I am looking forward to in 2018.
As each new year approaches, like many people I try to come up with new goals, lists and resolutions. I feel like as people we focus so much on resolutions that we are never actually successful at reaching. With 2018 here in just hours, my wishes for the New Year is of course health and happiness, but most importantly to spend time enjoying my babies and relishing in the time that we have, Often times we are in a rush, stressing about not having enough time to get things done. My goal is to try to live in the moment, my kids are only little for a short while and to focus on what is truly important and to spend time with those I love most!
Thank you so much to all of you who continue to follow me and read my little blog, I really appreciate your support! If you’re not already following me on Instagram, my handle is @Fancylittlemomma. Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year!
Last year I really wanted to find us some family Christmas PJ's...I kept waiting and looking and never really found anything that I loved. Sometimes I contemplate things for far too long and then its too late to even order what I initially wanted. This year I decided to look earlier, online and in stores. Again, I had the same problem. Until, I went on to the Joe Fresh website and found these cute & cozy fair isle PJ's. My daughter and I wore the red, she of course had a cute little graphic top with hers. And my son and husband wore the navy, they look super cute in them too!
Needless to say, I am happy with my find and how cute these photos turned out. Only 19 days until Christmas...can you believe it?!
All pyjamas: Joe Fresh
It is so crazy how as we get older and have our own children, that time just goes by so much faster....it's my 33rd Birthday today and I still feel like I am 19. Minus the fact that physically I definitely feel older, all of those competitive sports and two babies have me feeling a little more like 33 and less like 19 lol. 32 was an amazing year, my daughter was born, and I got to spend this whole year with both of my babies, and my baby brother got married and moved to Hawaii (I know poor him!)
Turning 33 definitely is bringing some new changes...I start back to work, my son begins JK and my daughter will start daycare. Although a new year and new beginnings can sometimes be scary, I am excited for what year 33 has in store for me and my family. Gosh, there are so many things that I would tell my 19 year old self...but getting older is all about learning and learning to live in the moment...to not sweat the small stuff and to really appreciate and cherish those that we love because life is so precious and there is nothing more important than family. I am so blessed and grateful for my family & life.
Happy Sunday! Enjoy it with those you love....
Side note: How cute is this t-shirt?! I feel like this t-shirt embodies who I am...warm & bright, fancy... yet laid back and easy going! Certainly a favourite....
Recently my entire family had family photos taken with the talented Kathy DeMerchant. My sister in law Melanie gave this to my parents as a gift and what a fabulous gift it was. If you can believe it, we had never as a family had professional photos taken. Of course, my little family has, but never with my mom and dad, brother and sister in law. It was a great idea too, as my brother David moved to Hawaii and will be there for one year as he begins his residency as a doctor, and then he will be in Texas after that for another 5!
I, of course styled my whole family. I really wanted us to match, without being too matchy matchy. Although, my husband and dad look like they may be wearing the same shirt (they're not haha). Navy, denim, chambray and cream really created a beautiful palette for our photos and everyone looked fabulous! I did a pretty good job haha. I am really happy with how all of the photos turned out!
I have had tons of questions & comments about this romper that I wore for our photos. I will be doing a separate post on this romper soon...it's been so popular that people have been out scouring to find it!
Here are some of my favourites...there are so many beautiful and precious photos! I hope you love them as much as I do.
Wow! What a year 2016 has been…I know this post is photo heavy, but it was difficult to select just a few of my favourites from 2016!
I always say this, but I cannot believe how fast this year has gone!! 2016 has by far been one of the best years of my life along with 2013, the two years my babies were born. Every year brings its share of ups and downs, good and bad, tears and smiles. Before I had my baby girl, I wondered how I could love anyone as much as I love my son, Jaxson. The heart is pretty amazing because on July 18, 2016 my beautiful and healthy baby girl Charleston Rose Elena was born and my heart grew times a million. She was born at 3:57 a.m., weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces. The moment she was born, our lives were forever changed. She has brought so much love, joy and happiness to our family. She is such a happy baby, loves to stay up late and lights up when she sees her big brother. As a mother, there is nothing better than seeing the love between your babies.
2016 has taught me so many things. It has definitely taught me that being a mom of 2 is no joke! Being a mother is the greatest gift and blessing that I have ever received. It is also exhausting and the most difficult thing you will ever do. Ever. With that, it is also the most rewarding thing you will ever do. Ever.
My children have taught me so many things this year. They have taught me the importance of always living and being in the moment. One of my goals for 2017 is to be more present and not to sweat the small stuff. To enjoy more time with my littles and less time worrying about the laundry that needs to be done or certain things that need to be cleaned or anything trivial, including people. This time with my babes just goes by so fast and I don’t want to miss a thing because I am worried about things that will always be there and will always need to be done. #momminainteasy.
2017 is a year full of new beginnings for my family! My husband is starting a new job, my brother is getting married and graduating from Medical School. Definitely a busy and exciting year ahead!
Wishing all of you a Happy and Healthy 2017, filled with love, joy and happiness!
