Let me preface this by saying a few things first. I believe that when you’re at home and not going anywhere it is perfectly acceptable to stay in your pyjamas all day long and change into clean ones before bed. It is also acceptable to wear any of your ‘comfy’ clothes; meaning clothes that you wouldn’t necessarily wear out in public. As a momma of a baby and a toddler, it’s safe to say that I learned very quickly not to wear any of my nice clothes while I’m at home with the kids. When I first had my son, I made this mistake and ruined some of my nice pieces of clothing. You learn by trial and error always as a parent. This means that I spend a lot of time in leggings and t’s. I don’t want to ruin my nice clothes with spit up and baby food, and my kids don't really care what I am wearing while we're at home, or anytime for that matter lol. They love me whatever my style may be!
We all tend to wear that same old ‘uniform’, depending on our jobs or lifestyle. Some people actually wear a uniform to work and often times find it very difficult to dress and have some sort of style outside of work. Here are some pieces of advice if you find yourself unhappy with your overall style and look and hope to amp up your style!
1. Switch Up Your Go To’s
We are all drawn to certain types and colours of clothing, types of t-shirts, jeans, leggings or oversized hoodies. The next time you’re out shopping, try and buy something that you wouldn’t normally purchase; a pair of jeans instead of leggings, a colour instead of black etc. I know how intimidating this can be. I always find myself drawn to certain styles and colours, sometimes even buying multiples of one item because I like it so much! By switching up your 'go-to's', you can really help yourself get out of your style rut and get out of your go to ‘uniform’ pieces.
2. Shop Your Closet
This is a great way to get out of a style ‘rut’. Shopping your own closet can definitely bring some style inspiration to your life and can also help you create a brand new look and pair items that maybe you wouldn’t of before. I recently just re-organized my closet, found items that I forgot I had and got rid of some that I never wear. If you haven’t worn that item in a year, chances are you never will, so get rid of it. If you have an item you really want to wear, but don't know how to style it, send me an email- I would love to help!
3. Get Inspiration
Many conversations and questions that I have with and receive from people revolve around difficulty that people are having when styling their outfits together. I know, the struggle can be real and very overwhelming for most. What do I pair with this top or this jacket?! are questions I get all of the time! I love helping people with these struggles and help them with their styling difficulties. Look for style inspiration from others to help you get out of your ‘rut’!
4. Feel Good, Look Good
Sometimes changing up your look can really help boost your confidence and essentially get you out of your style ‘rut’. Get a new hairstyle or change your hair colour, get a facial, go for a massage, go for a run, get your nails done. Do something that makes you feel good! I am and have always been a believer in a feel good, look good policy. If you feel good, then you look good. You don’t have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, but try to do something that makes you feel good both on the inside and outside .
I hope that my advice and suggestions help you to get out of your style ‘rut’ and that this year helps you find your inner happinesss!!
